This bus stop is located at 13th and Jefferson St. and serves the Russel neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. The architecture firm Luckett & Farley along with community organizations, TARC, and Youthbuild, worked collaboratively to design and build the structure, which was finished in December 2018.
The interdependent arches of the church served as inspiration for the bus stop design. Following this concept, we implemented a variety of community-dependent aspects to the design such as working with YouthBuild, a local contractor that apprentices neighborhood youth in the construction industry. In addition, the colored diamonds are filled with patterns designed and cut by members of the Russel neighborhood with YouthBuild laser cutters.
